Men’s basketball on hot streak with fourth straight win
The SWOSU men’s basketball team competed against Southern Arkansas University to earn themselves their fourth win in a row. In a close game, Damion Thornton also took over the all-time leading scorer in SWOSU’s Division II history.
The Bulldogs defeated SAU 70-67 in a game that went back and forth in both halves. Thorton led the way and took over the all-time scoring leader in style with 30 points and 9 rebounds. He was also very efficient, shooting 9-for-14 from the field and 12-for-17 on free-throws.
The game remained close until the final minutes as neither team had an opportunity to pull away. When it mattered the most, Jaylan Williams closed out the game in a big way. Williams made back-to-back three pointers, followed by a punctuation block which brought energy to the team, putting SWOSU up 69-61.
Williams finished the game with 13 points on 3-for-5 shooting from behind the arc.
SAU tried to make the game interesting, cutting the lead to just two, but a big stop from SWOSU and a made free throw from Thornton gave the Bulldogs some comfort. On the final play, the Bulldogs were able to get two stops and the time expired.
SWOSU looks to extend their winning streak to five on Saturday, Jan. 29 against the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
