Lady Bulldogs Start Season 0-2
This past weekend, the Lady Bulldogs basketball team traveled to Topeka, KS for the GAC/MIAA Crossover tournament where they faced Washburn and Pittsburg State University and lost both games.
Washburn, a MIAA team, outscored SWOSU 55-71. Morgan Smith, a junior guard, was the top scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points. Both Layni Zinn, a sophomore guard, and Averi Zinn, a junior guard, had seven points for the game. Other notable players include sophomore forward Shamica Smith who had the most rebounds for SWOSU with six, five of which were on the defensive end.
Pittsburg State, also a MIAA team, outscored our women 66-69. Again, Smith was the top scorer for the team, scoring 19 points. Averi Zinn scored a solid 14 points, and junior guard Macy Gore scored 13 points. Shamica Smith again led the team in rebounds with nine, eight of which were defensive. Gore also led the team with five assists.
The Lady Bulldogs will continue their non-conference play on Friday, Nov. 18 against West Texas A&M in Canyon, TX. Against the Lady Buffs, SWOSU is 3-15 in overall matchups. The last time the two teams faced together was Oct. 31, 2021, in which the Lady Bulldogs lost 68-81. As the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Texas later this week, they will look for their first win with new head coach Jeff Zinn.
