Morgan Smith Sets Career High, Earns GAC Player of the Week
Since 2023 has come around, the SWOSU women’s basketball team is 2-0 in games played. Their second of the two games played was against Southern Arkansas University, where the Lady Bulldogs won 91-81.
In the high scoring matchup, junior guard Morgan Smith set her career high with 32 points. She did so on 13-of-21 shooting and 4-of-8 on three-pointers. It was an efficient game for Smith on the offensive end.
“I never got a feeling that I was going to have a big game,” Smith said. “I knew I was hitting my shots and making the open looks and ended up being something special.”
While scoring her career best 32 points, Smith played 39 minutes.
“I was pretty tired, but I was super happy we won and had a good weekend of games,” Smith said. “I thought both games we finally clicked as a team on both sides of the court.”
The big game led to Smith being selected as GAC Player of the Week.
“It’s a nice thing to receive it,” Smith said. “It makes me more excited for the rest of the season with my team.”
With the Lady Bulldogs starting the calendar year with a 2-0 start, Smith may have given the Lady Bulldogs the spark they need to keep pushing through this season. They’re now 3-8, and they could desperately use a spark as they navigate their first season under Coach Zinn.
The Lady Bulldogs next play Ouachita Baptist on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
