The jazz festival here at SWOSU has been a longtime standing tradition since 1971. The festival consists of two days, back to back, full of jazz. Regional universities, middle, and high schools are invited to play in front of guest judges for personalized feedback and comments. Special guests often play along with the SWOSU jazz band for a concert on the last day of the jazz festival.
This year’s guest was a Grammy award-winning trumpet, Terell Stafford. Terell Stafford not only played but taught, at Lincoln Center and Juilliard and he now resides as the Director of Jazz Studies and Chair of Instrumental Studies at Temple University. He also manages the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia.
