The college tour is an informative TV series that features multiple universities around the world through the eyes of the students. The Amazon Prime series mission is to give high school students an idea of what college is best for them. The show is the ultimate college tour guide that spotlights different majors, housing, sports, student life, and what makes the featured university unique. The college tour came to Weatherford to showcase SWOSU and the episode will premiere Tuesday, September 10th in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium at 1:30 p.m.
Parks and Rec major Ethan Haggard and nursing major Jonathan Martinez along with other SWOSU students and majors were featured in this episode. Martinez had his doubts on applying for this TV special but was encouraged by professors to jump in and share his love for nursing to the world.
“My interest was piqued in joining the episode initially when it was announced they were doing auditions,” said Martinez. “I did have my doubts though because this is a small campus and there are so many more people with more amazing stories than I. Two professors from the department of nursing, Mrs. Kennedye and Mrs. Froneberger on the same day emailed me saying that I would be the perfect candidate to audition for the show. I was sold on sharing my passion for nursing and how amazing our school of nursing is.”
Haggard sparked interest in the show with the new opportunities it had to offer.
“I wanted to be a part of the college tour because I thought it would be a fun experience and I would get to meet new people,” said Haggard. “My favorite part of filming was getting to meet and hang out with Alex while we were at Lucille’s.”
SWOSU majors and what they do are highlighted all throughout the episode. Martinez had the opportunity to film with some of his closest classmates as they show production some of the skills they have been learning in class.
“My favorite part of filming was shooting the B-reel for my segment,” said Martinez. “This was my favorite part because my friends Kenna and Elizabeth got to be a part of this amazing experience with me, as well as instructors Dr. Goucher and Mrs. Hunt. We filmed in the upstairs lab in the Parker building, we got to play with many skills and scenarios. I had a great time laughing and just sharing the behind the scenes of learning how we learn to be safe and effective nurses with the production crew.”
SWOSU may be small but the community is like no other. Students hope that viewers will see how amazing both the Weatherford and SWOSU community is through this episode.
“I hope that this episode lets everyone that isn’t a part of SWOSU or the community of Weatherford know how amazing this school and community is,” said Haggard.
“I hope that all non-swosu viewers get from this episode is that our university as a whole is the perfect place to come here if you want to feel like you want to truly belong somewhere. I also hope that they see the school of nursing as an amazing institution and that they feel a calling to come to SWOSU and to feel a spark to pursue nursing as a future career.”
