Did you know that as a SWOSU student/faculty member, you have access to a nine-hole disc golf course, axe throwing, and kayaking/canoeing all for free?
One of the best advantages that comes with being a SWOSU student/faculty member is Crowder Lake University Park. This 158-water-acre and 159-land-acre park is located about 15 minutes south of campus and is home to a wide variety of recreation activities.
Kayaking/Canoeing
With a valid student/faculty ID, you can check out a kayak or canoe free of charge from the Crowder Lake office. Kayaks and canoes can be checked out from 1-6 pm, but they must be returned to the office by 7 pm.
Fishing
My favorite amenity at Crowder Lake is fishing! With a long stretch of shoreline, you can fish from the shoreline or the boating docks. Also included with a valid ID and fishing license, you can check out fishing poles. Perfect for those who didn’t move out with poles or those who are just getting into fishing. Lures are not included with the poles, so be sure to bring your own.
Disc Golf
No discs? No problem. With a valid ID, discs can be checked out from the office free of charge. The park features a nine-hole disc golf course. The course is featured on the UDisc app and website.
Axe Throwing
After you throw discs, throw some axes! The park features three targets and axes that can be checked out at the office.
Mile Walking Trail
Take a walk all around the park on the mile-long walking trail. The trail is an interpretive nature trail and weaves throughout the entirety of the park.
Other amenities
Crowder Lake also features a playground, horseshoe pit, tetherball pole, and even an area near the water where you can hang your hammock and relax!
The park is home to a rappelling and rock wall, as well as a challenge ropes course with ziplines. These are open to enjoy on certain days for just a small cost.
Camping
If you want to spend some more time at the lake, Crowder has full hookup RV sites with water and electricity and tent sites with a picnic table, pavilion, and fire pit.
Events
Throughout the year, many events take place at Crowder Lake. Come enjoy a full moon paddle on September 17 and a sunrise paddle on September 21!
To stay hooked on all that is happening at Crowder Lake, follow Crowder Lake on Instagram and Facebook.
The park will look to stay open through the beginning of November. Head on out to Crowder Lake for all sorts of fun activities, free of charge!
