SWOSU Parks and Recreation’s community recreation class hosts events around Weatherford annually. This year, they hosted the Terror Trot at Prairie West Golf Club. Proceeds of the run went to Connections Food and Resource Center.
The Terror Trot was a 5k and one mile scare run that featured scarers spread out amongst the course. The race ran after dark, and provided some funny moments for the runners.
Not only was the race an excellent time for runners, the event raised a lot of money for Connections Food and Resource Center. In total, $6,411.78 was raised, and 213 pounds of food was donated. This is a massive increase over past years.
Instructor Paul Hummel mentioned that the students really took ownership this year, and were very outgoing in their efforts to advertise the race. They spoke at Weatherford Chamber of Commerce’s Community Coffee and spoke on the radio to advertise the event.
In total, 170 people registered for the event, and 155 participated. There were storms in the area in the evening, causing the race to get slightly delayed, but the turnout was still outstanding. There were people from around the area, as well as one from New York! This participant is focusing on completing a race in every state across the country, and ran in Weatherford to complete the race for Oklahoma.
This event was a complete success for the class, and SWOSU. Coming up on December 7th, Hummel plans to host “Chasing Santa,” a christmas sweater 5k run and pup walk. To sign up for the race, visit here.
