In November, there were a handful of events that happened across the 5 dorm buildings. From flower bouquets to candy canes, there was at least one event pretty much everyone could enjoy, most of which had “trinkets” you could make and keep.
On November 4th, Stewart Hall hosted Floral Fantasy, where attendees could make a bouquet with up to 6 carnations in colors of their choice and two fillers. After they made the bouquet, they could pick from various colors of ribbon to tie around their flowers, and then there were small brown cardstock squares and sharpies as well for notes to be written and attached to the bouquets if they were to be given away.
On November 7th, Mann Hall hosted Float Your Boat, where they had the stuff to make root beer floats and then showed Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs in the Mann South lobby.
On November 11th, Charcuterie and Games was thrown at Mann Hall where there were board games of all kinds.
On November 13th, Oklahoma Hall hosted Build Your Own Terrarium, where students could go and put succulents and other decor such as rocks and plastic mini “fairy garden” trinkets like mushroom, flowers, and gnomes in small spherical containers. Immediately after, at Neff Hall, BYOB (Bring Your Own Bowl) happened. The boys’ dorm provided a movie night that included a cereal bar with cereals like Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Raisin Bran, Fruity Pebbles, and others, as well as regular and lactose free milk.
On November 14th, Stewart Hall hosted Donut Stress, Just Dance, where they had a handful of donut flavors to choose from, and rearranged their lobby furniture to let attendees be able to play Just Dance.
On November 18th, to start out the last full week before Thanksgiving Break, Neff Hall hosted a Ping Pong Tournament, with free food and drinks. The 1st Place winner of the tournament won a Muscle Massage Gun.
On November 19th, Barbeque and Budgeting happened at Black Kettle Hall, where pulled pork sandwiches were served while Brock Freeman, a State Farm representative, and former SWOSU student spoke on budgeting in college. After that, It’s Not Just a Boulder, It’s A Rock was at Oklahoma Hall, where they played some classic “divorced dad” rock while attendees could paint a rock.
On November 20th, Mann Hall hosted Turkey Trivia, which was a night of fun and three rounds of trivia, with the winner of each round receiving a gift basket as their prize.
On November 21st, Cookies and Cocoa was hosted by Black Kettle Hall where hot chocolate was served and attendees could decorate Christmas cookies.
Finally, to close out the month, on November 25th, Neff Hall had Keychains and Candy Canes, where attendees could paint their own keychain and enjoy an array of different flavors of candy canes while classic Christmas cartoons were planning in the background.
All in all, that was a total of 12 events across the course of the month. The Residence and Housing staff and the Resident Advisors (RAs) throw these Reslife Events every month as an opportunity for breaks from homework, studying, and assignments and it also provides a chance to hang with friends and maybe even make some new ones. Not to mention, it is kind of fun to make a little trinket, or enjoyable to take something home that you made, and when you see it later, it will remind you of your time in college. Be sure to start keeping an eye out every month for the Reslife Recap here directly on the Southwestern feed!
