SWOSU Baseball took two wins this past Saturday against Colorado School of Mines giving them a 2-0 start to the season.
The first game was an 18-7 and the second game was a 5-2 win for the Dawgs. These games were led by a total of eleven home runs by four different players. Bodi Waller, Markus Coronado, and Sergio Natera all ended the day with three each. Campbell Sullivan also had two home runs.
The Dawgs pitching staff came out ready to go. The first game SWOSU only used three pitchers to hold off the Mines bats. The second game was another strong outing for the pitching staff. Drew Fifer started for the Dawgs and only gave up two runs in the three innings he pitched. He only gave up two walks and struck out five. Tyler Leachner came in after Drew to throw a scoreless 2 innings. Jackson Blue threw the sixth inning and again no runs or base runners allowed. Greg Ross ended the game on the mound for the Bulldogs and only allowed one baserunner to get on.
This doubleheader is just the beginning for SWOSU Baseball. It was one of the strongest openings for a season the Dawgs have ever had. They have the hopes to keep the bats swinging like this the whole year. If they keep this up, they can really shake up conference play.
SWOSU will face Adams State on February 7th at 1 pm in Weatherford Oklahoma.
