SWOSU Softball wins 5-1 against the number 17 nationally ranked Harding Bisons in the 3rd game of the home opener.
The Bulldogs had lost the first two games of this series and had some fight to take one away from the Bisons. Alexis Taylor started pitching for the Dawgs and threw lights out for 6 innings. In this game, she recorded four strikeouts and only allowed three hits. She was relieved by Jaycee McKee after a double was hit by the bisons to lead off that inning.
The offense came out strong as well. They were able to put up one run in the first with a leadoff single by Jayden Hook followed by a double by Kaylee Barkley to score. Then, going into the bottom of the second inning, the Dawgs put up two more runs when Sierra Woods led off with a double, which she then scored when Jayden Hook hit a double off the wall. Jayden then went on to score by a throwing error by the Bisons. This gave SWOSU a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs offense didn’t stop there. In the bottom of the 5th Kaylee Barkely hit her second double of the day to lead the inning off. Katie Boline then hit her in with her first home run of the season over the left field wall. This gave the dawgs a 5-0 lead going into the 6th.
Alexis was pushed to benign the 6t but after one hit she was relieved by Jaycee. She then went on to throw three putouts with two ground balls back to her and one to Jayden Hook at second base.
To end the game in the top of the 7th the Bisons got two back-to-back doubles off Jaycee to score one run. Jaycee then went on to get an out off a ground ball back to her again and then strike out the last two.
This was the Bulldogs’ first conference win, and it gave them momentum they hope to carry to this weekend when they play OBU in Shawnee Oklahoma at 4 pm and 6 pm on Friday and 2 pm on Saturday.
