AXIS is the on campus ministry of The Edge Church, out of Clinton, Oklahoma, for college students aged 18-25. AXIS meets every other Tuesday night at 8 pm, in the Sky View Room in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center. (However, location may tend to vary, be sure to follow @axisattheedge on Instagram to make sure you are always up to date if location changes.) They offer a comfortable, laid back, come-as-you-are atmosphere. It is a good “opening” place for if you’re trying to get into “adding” religion into your college routine or even if you just want some community on campus, which is so important with homework, classes, jobs, sports, and everything else! (There’s also typically some kind of food provided, sometimes even like Chick-fil-A or Whataburger!)
AXIS students are informed and given the opportunity to attend SMC (Student Mobilization Conference) in Dallas, Texas, at the beginning of January. SMC is similar to Passion, an annual event that features sermons from popular Christian speakers, singers, and novelists, (attracting roughly 60,000 participants, while SMC is smaller, attracting about 2,000 college students). During the four days you are attending SMC, there are breakout sessions with messages specifically tailored to situations we all face in college and our young adult lives. While SWOSU is not an actual STUMO affiliated campus such as Oklahoma State University (OSU), the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), Oklahoma University (OU), or Texas A&M University (just to name a few) are, AXIS students are still invited and encouraged to participate in SMC.
AXIS student Tatum Cummings says “My favorite part about AXIS is that I get to connect with other students in college that I wouldn’t normally see. I have also made tons of new friends because of AXIS! AXIS has also grown my relationship with God and has given me the encouragement to continue to work on it.”
She also said, “I would describe AXIS as an encouraging family open to anyone! AXIS makes me feel at home and it is my favorite part of the week! If I did not have AXIS, I would not have the relationships and the faith that I have! I would say if people want to try AXIS, don’t be scared and just come try it! It could bring life change and they could make friendships that last a lifetime!” when she was asked why people should come to AXIS.
AXIS student Zac Rogers says, “My favorite part of AXIS is the community and the fellowship with other young believers.” He also said, “AXIS has been the most influential part of my first semester here at SWOSU, and if it had not been here, I would not be the born again believer I am; I would be someone totally different. AXIS is a great way to connect and be open when arriving at college because life can be scary on your own, and AXIS helped me turn to God in those times.” when he was asked why he would encourage people to come to AXIS.
As a student who spends her Tuesday nights going to AXIS myself, I would have to say my favorite part about AXIS is getting to have that community and social aspect. I also love hearing the message weekly from our AXIS Pastor, Stetson Green.
I would encourage you to come if you’re curious about it, because it definitely won’t hurt you, and who knows? It may become your new favorite thing. So be sure to come to AXIS at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center at 8 PM every other Tuesday! We would love to see you there! I’ll save you a seat!
