This past weekend, SWOSU softball won its first series win of the season in a series in which its bats were unstoppable.
The first game of the series the Dawgs reached a season high of hits in a single game being 13. This gave them the win 8-4. The rally began in the second inning when Chesnie Hewitt led off with a bomb to put SWOSU ahead. This began an almost unbeatable inning of base hits, Jayden Hook followed this homer with a double off the wall. She was then able to cross home plate for another run when Riley Lusk had a gap shot into right field. Katie Boline and Kaylee Barkley both had doubles this inning to score runs as well. The energy coming from the SWOSU dugout was like no other. Everyone was in the game and wanted this win. Chesnie Hewitt also had another solo bomb in the 6th to push the lead even further. She could not be stopped.

The second game of the series, SWOSU lost 9-8. This was still an incredible game of non-stop hitting from both sides. The Dawgs were more aggressive on the bases this game which worked in their favor most of the time. This was a fun game to watch as both teams had issues with the home plate umpire. It was a struggle to get the right calls and it just ended up to be ECU on top.
In the last game the Bulldogs had a statement to make and came out ready to get the series win. The final score was 9-3 and the runs SWOSU scored came from two big innings. They had 4 runs in the second and 5 runs in the fourth. The second inning here was the best offense the Dawgs have had all year. Those four runs came after two outs had already been made. It was gap shot after gap shot. ECU went through three different pitchers just this inning and none of them could shut down the bats of SWOSU. Chesnie Hewitt had herself (Katie Boline #8) another day at the plate, she had another double to score two of the four runs, and then in the fifth she had a two run homer. That puts her at three home runs in one series, which is not normal in softball. She was on fire and couldn’t be put out.
The Dawgs energy is what made this series so different compared to the previous. They were willing to do anything to score a run or make the out. Everyone who stepped in the box wanted to drive the ball and the dugout was ready to celebrate every little win, even the sacrifice bunts the team was happy about.
Next up SWOSU will face Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday April 4th at 3pm in Weatherford Oklahoma.
