“MISSING STUDENT FROM SWOSU LOCATED DECEASED
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
OCTOBER 9, 2025
WEATHERFORD, OK – On October 5, 2025, the Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Police Department requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate a missing persons case.
The missing individual was identified as 18-year-old Logan Nathaniel Musil, who was a student at SWOSU. Musil was reported missing to police the night of September 30, 2025.
OSBI special agents, along with local law enforcement, began their comprehensive search for Musil.
Based on the information gathered, on October 8, 2025, the OSBI, Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department, and the National Park Service began conducting a search of a wooded area near Veteran’s Lake in Sulphur, Oklahoma. During the search, an adult male was found deceased. That individual was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who positively identified the victim as Musil.
During their investigation, OSBI special agents learned that Musil had been in an altercation with 18-year-old Cameron Lewis prior to his death. Based on the information and evidence obtained, Lewis was arrested on October 9, 2025, in Weatherford. He was booked into the Custer County Jail.
This is still an ongoing investigation at this time. Official charges will be determined by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Oklahoma.
The OSBI appreciates the SWOSU Police Department, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department, Murray County Sheriff’s Office, and the National Park Service for their continued assistance with this investigation.”
OSBI Public Information Officer Hunter McKee stated that OSBI agents are still working to gather details on exactly where the altercation occurred and when it took place. They were able to confirm that the body was moved to the place it was found. Details on exactly how the victim died will be determined by the medical examiner.
As mentioned in the statement, the suspect was booked into the Custer County jail.
Following the announcement from the OSBI, Acting President Janet Cunningham shared a message to SWOSU students via email.
“Dear SWOSU Community,
We are heartbroken to share that law enforcement has confirmed the death of our student, Logan Musil. Earlier today, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation announced that Logan was found deceased in Murray County and that an arrest has been made in connection with the case.
This loss is devastating. Logan was part of our Bulldog family, and our thoughts are with his loved ones, friends, classmates and everyone affected. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this unimaginable time.
Because this is an active criminal investigation, law enforcement is handling all questions about the case. Please direct any media or public inquiries to OSBI and refrain from sharing unconfirmed information.”
The message went on to say counseling services will be available through the center for health and well-being, the Dean of Students Office, and the Employee Assistance Program.
The Southwestern will continue to post more updates as they become available over the coming hours, days, and beyond.
