Fall sports are in full gear for SWOSU and it can be hard to keep up with everything. Here is what’s been going on in Bulldogs Athletics.
Football:
SWOSU Football is already off to a better start this year than in previous. They are 2-4 in conference, but several of their losses were close and good games. The Dawgs are on a two-game losing streak, but these losses came down to the last minute of the games. They took a 32-35 loss against Henderson and a 12-14 loss against Southern Arkansas. During both of the games, the Bulldogs were leading going into the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. All they need is to find some grit to finish the game. They have had some incredible wins, though. They took the game against OBU with a final score of 38-24. In this game, the Bulldogs tied the program record for rushing yards at 388. It was an incredible game to watch. I haven’t seen a crowd that crazy at a Bulldog football game ever. You could see they were putting their hearts on the field and representing what SWOSU football is. They will be playing SNU this Thursday in Bethany, OK at 6pm. You can always watch the game on the live stream if you can’t make it to the game.
Soccer
SWOSU Soccer has an amazing start to its season. They are 5-0-2 in conference, meaning they have won 5 games and tied 2. They seem to be unstoppable this year. All the conference games they have played this year, they have only allowed one goal a game. The most recent game the Bulldogs had was against SNU. This game ended in a shutout 1-0. The defense was stronger than ever, only allowing 4 shots on goal for SNU. Watching this team this year has been incredible. They play so well off each other, you would think they’ve been playing together for years, but most of these girls are new to SWOSU this year. With all these wins, it puts the Dawgs tied for first in conference with Ouachita Baptist. They need all the support they can get to continue this winning streak. Their next home game is against Northwestern on Wednesday, November 5th, at 3 pm here in Weatherford.
Volleyball
Bulldog Volleyball is pushing to get a few more conference wins as they are 6-3 putting them in the middle of the pack in the GAC. This is lower than previous years, but they have had some super strong games. This past Friday they took a massive win over Harding with a shut out 3-0. This game they seemed to find their rhythm again and were able to play as a team. They wanted the win and refused to lose. They set a tone in the first set winning it 25-10. Hailey Smith and Paris Patterson both tallied up 6 kills. It was amazing to see how excited they get for each other and the support they give when a teammate makes a mistake. This win over Harding gave the Bisons only their second loss in all of conference play. Meaning, this was a huge win by SWOSU. It was one of their best matches this season. From the energy of the crowd, to the amazing plays on the court, you never lost interest in the game. That game proved to not count them out yet. The Bulldogs are coming up on an important game against Arkansas Monticello as a win here could move them up to 4th place. They play at Monticello this Thursday at 6pm.
Rodeo
The SWOSU rodeo team is off to a great start this year! They’ve had 3 rodeos so far. Within those 3 rodeos, the women’s team has had two 2nd place finishes and one 1st place finish which puts them number one in the region! We’ve also had several event champions from athletes such as, Heston Harrison, Cheyenne VandeStouwe, and Reagan McIntyre. Along with these event champions are top 5 finishes from Braylee Ward, Tricia Lammers, Luke Crompton, Greeley Eastep, Brandt O’Conner, Carli Stuva, and Jaylyn Hash. They have one more rodeo to round them out for the fall semester.
