Scare-O-Lympics accepting teams of two for a 5-mile cross country and water race
The first adventure race in the Southwest region of Oklahoma will be hosted by SWOSU on Halloween. The race is open to a maximum of 15 teams of two who will be put to the tests of canoe racing, running, obstacles and map orientation.
Teams will be provided with a canoe and a compass. The event will begin at 1 p.m. Oct. 31 at Crowder Lake University Park. There will be prizes for the first, second and third for fastest time to complete the race.
“If you want to use your phone for your GPS, that is fine, but I can tell you right now it is not going to work,” said Ryan Kellar who is a SWOSU sophomore and an organizer of the event.
There is a $30 entry fee per team which will include two shirts as souvenirs. The proceeds of the race will go toward park improvements, such as a nine-hole disc golf course.
Spectators are welcome to join the celebration, but the race will not constantly be in view. Vendors and SWOSU organizations have been invited to join the event at Crowder Lake University Park.
Professor Paul Hummel and his Community Recreation class have organized the event as part of their service-learning project. The students created the design and logo and have been focused on the event since August.
