UPDATE: SWOSU Professor arrested on two counts on child sexual abuse

SWOSU professor was charged with two counts of child sexual abuse on Oct. 21. He was booked with the Custer County Jail on Oct. 25 at 11:07 a.m.

Devin Smoot was a SWOSU professor hired in 2019 for Computer Sciences. He has been removed from the faculty directory since the arrest has been announced. A university official said they will continue to address the situation at the appropriate time.

The preliminary hearing conference will be held Friday, Dec. 3 2021.

Arresting officer Matt Bartel said the case is still under investigation. The Southwestern will continue to update this story as it develops.
