Volleyball Ousted by Arkansas Tech in GAC Semifinals
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – SWOSU Volleyball was eliminated from the Great American Conference Championships on Friday following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Arkansas Tech in the semifinals.
The Dawgs found themselves in a hole they could not quite dig out of after dropping the first two sets of the match. With their backs against the wall, SWOSU battled and survived the sweep with a 25-20 third set victory but were unable to build off that momentum.
When they needed it most in the fourth set, the offense could not conjure up enough firepower to keep things going. The offense finished that fourth set with a negative hitting percentage and 10 errors, while Tech steadily collected points to build their lead and close out the match.
Handling Tech’s serves was a problem for SWOSU all afternoon, as the Dawgs allowed 11 service aces compared to just two aces they were able to collect.
Chezney Nielsen finished with a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. Terez Chavez also finished with a double-double with 41 assists and 14 digs. MacKenzie Harless tallied the most kills for the Bulldogs, after posting an efficient 14 kills (.312 hitting percentage) and adding a couple blocks to her stat sheet.
The Bulldogs finish the season 20-8 for their third 20-win season in program history. SWOSU has now also had four consecutive winning seasons.
