Celebrating different cultures and languages is the goal during the Third Annual World Languages Week from Monday, March 9, until Thursday, March 12.

On Monday, during an opening reception, several people, such as the Dean of Students Joshua Engle and Lisa Friesen, Director of the SWOSU Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, will talk about the importance of languages and cultures, based on their own experiences.

Furthermore, Dr. Tugba Sevin, who organizes the events, will talk about opportunities for students to study abroad. The reception will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the East Ballroom.

On Tuesday, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. (East Ballroom), there will be presentations of international students about unique facts and unique superstitions of their home countries. After that, people can practice either their English, Spanish, or Italian at three different language tables.

On Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m., the member initiation ceremony of the Alpha Mu Gamma National Foreign Language Honor Society is hosted, again in the East Ballroom. Several students of Southwestern Oklahoma State University will then become a member of the honor society.

From Monday to Thursday, there will also be a t-shirt sale fundraiser in the Student Union lobby.

“The goal of the Third Annual World Languages Week is to promote different languages and cultural diversity at SWOSU and to show the options SWOSU has to offer,” Dr. Sevin, who is the World Languages coordinator at SWOSU, says.
