Joshua Engle, Director of the SWOSU eSports program, and with him a lot of faculty, staff, and students, were eagerly awaiting the opening of the new eSports arena on the Weatherford campus. Now, the day has finally come and the public could check out the facility on Thursday, June 24.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am,” Engle said. “It’s truly amazing that something like this can come to Western Oklahoma.”

The arena will host competitions in Rocket League, Super Smash Bros, League of Legends, and Overwatch.

Engle: “What makes this arena stand out the most is that it’s not designed in a traditional style. It’s a stacked design style, so our students, rather than facing the competitors on the first floor, we have two seperate floors for the competitors. That adds a little drama and dynamic.”

The seats for the audience are comfortable, and the colors of the lights (visible among others around the speakers) are held in classic SWOSU design. The arena is located in the Wellness Center in the north-western part behind the gym.

In order to make it easier for visitors to find the location, a sign is supposed to be put up soon in the lobby of the Wellness Center, according to Engle.
