What is HOSA?
HOSA is a global student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services, and several federal and state agencies. HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. (https://hosa.org/what-is-hosa/)
SWOSU HOSA is led under the supervision of Allied Health Instructors Teri Stubbs and Amy Maynard.
This week, with the help of co-event coordinator, Adele Drummond, I got the insider on SWOSU HOSA.
Adele stated “HOSA is an organization for future healthcare professionals. Anyone wanting to go into the healthcare field is welcome to join, regardless of the major! The mission of HOSA is to empower Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration and experience. There are several aspects that make up HOSA. There are competitions which allow HOSA members to show their expertise in various health care related events, and there is a national service project that HOSA chapters all over the Nation support. It is currently Be The Match. There is also the opportunity to earn scholarships through HOSA, and there is statewide conferences twice a year, with an annual national conference.”
So far, HOSA has hosted a Halloween themed movie night and more recently, Friendsgiving. They will have more events planned in the spring semester.
“The easiest way to join is to come to a meeting! We welcome anyone who wants to get involved! We meet once a month on a Wednesday at 12:00 in Old Science, room 200.”
