Oklahoma History Center Research trip

On Thursday March 28th,  Professor Jessica Salmans took 10 Costume and Wardrobe students to the Oklahoma History Center to learn about hands-on research methods in the Arts and Humanities. There they were able to utilize the Research Library to explore several questions and got a private tour of the Textiles collection. The group saw many of the Inaugural gowns of the First Ladies of Oklahoma as well as several newly acquired pieces from Marie Tallchief’s personal Wardrobe. Additionally, they looked at Indigenous and Native garments.

The purpose of the trip was to learn research methods for historical recreation but also for incorporating historical techniques into modern fabrication.

They finished the day at First Americans Museum for a more robust look at variances in materials and patterns in Indigenous garments to compare and contrast with European influence.

They were also able to discuss career options in Museum, Historical Preservation, and Historical Recreation
