Auditioning for a musical can be an exhilarating yet nerve-wracking experience. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time.
I had the opportunity to audition for the musical Falling in Fall by Laura Julian. There were two days of open auditions. Open auditions which means they are open to any student enrolled in SWOSU, you are not required to be a theatre major, or music major.
As soon as you walk in the theater door you fill out an audition form. In this form, you will put information such as name, number, email, age, availability, etc. You then take your form into the theater and begin the audition. Each actor will sing 32 bars of their song of choice. You had the option to sing acapella, with a track, or with the piano accompaniment. After the singing portion of the audition, you then move into the acting section.
Students were able to come with a one-minute monologue to perform or you could perform a cold read. A cold read is an audition technique where actors read a script or scenes without prior preparation or rehearsal. The director Dr. Patrick Julian gave each actor several opportunities at a cold read before they were dismissed from auditions.
After two days of auditions, the cast list was promptly posted and rehearsals are underway!
Join us for a captivating journey in the musical “Falling in Fall,” running from November 14th to 17th! We hope to see you there!
