Thanksgiving for some families consists of watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, prepping all morning for family dinner, decorating for Christmas, another tradition or all of the above. With Thanksgiving being at the end of November, there is plenty of time to catch a movie centered around Thanksgiving. If you’re looking for one to watch this fall season to keep your mind off of various college stress, be sure to check out one that is featured below!
1. Friendsgiving
In this movie, “Molly and Abbey, along with their crew of close friends and acquaintances, host a dysfunctional, comical and chaotic Thanksgiving dinner. Abby is looking forward to a laid-back Thanksgiving with her best friend Molly. But the friends’ plans for a quiet turkey dinner go up in smoke when they’re joined by Molly’s new boyfriend and her flamboyant mother. Throw in some party crashers including Molly’s old flame, a wannabe shaman, and a trio of Fairy Gay Mothers, and it’s a recipe for a comically chaotic holiday no one will ever forget-even if they wanted to.” You can watch this on popular streaming services including, but not limited to, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Sling TV, and Apple TV.
2. A Family Thanksgiving
“This Thanksgiving-themed Hallmark Channel original movie includes an inspirational message about how our daily decisions can change the course of our lives. Daphne Zuniga and Faye Dunaway star in this story about a corporate lawyer living a lavish lifestyle when she meets a mystic who shows her (in A Christmas Carol kind of way) what her life would be like had she made different choices.” This movie can be streamed through Hallmark Movies Now.
3. Garfield’s Thanksgiving
For the next recommendation, I’m taking it to a classic fall movie I grew up watching. “On Thanksgiving, according to Garfield, people celebrate food by eating as much of it as possible. It’s a tradition. But that tradition is history following a checkup from veterinarian Liz Wilson, a sassy lady who says Garfield must go on a diet.” You can catch Garfield’s Thanksgiving on Peacock or Amazon Prime.
4. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
“Turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie… and the Peanuts gang to share them with. This is going to be the greatest Thanksgiving ever! The fun begins when Peppermint Patty invites herself and her pals to Charlie Brown’s house for a REALLY big turkey party. Good grief! All our hero can cook is cold cereal and maybe toast. Is Charlie Brown doomed? Not when Linus, Snoopy and Woodstock chip in to save the (Thanksgiving) Day. With such good friends, Charlie Brown – and all of us – have so many reasons to be thankful.” This is available to watch on Apple TV
5. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Although this isn’t a Thanksgiving Themed movie, it had to make the list. For many families, watching the parade is how their Thanksgiving Day starts. If you’re not familiar with the parade, let me break it down for you. The parade takes place from 9:00am – 12:00pm EST in New York City, New York. The parade features including, but not limited to, decorated floats, character balloons, marching bands, special guests, and of course Santa Claus. The first parade was held in 1924 and it has run every year since except from 1942 to 1944 due to WWII. This year will be the 98th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. America can watch the parade live on NBC and stream it on Peacock.
That’s all for now. Be sure to check any of the ones above, and tune back in later this semester for more movies you won’t want to miss!
