SWOSU found the win column again in a mid-week game on Tuesday against OBU. This was a huge 17-7 win for the Bulldogs.
The first two innings were scoreless for the SWOSU and OBU until the bottom of the third when the Dawgs found some runs. These runs game of two bombs back-to-back. It started with No. 18 John Spoto hitting a no-doubt homer over the left field wall, scoring two runs. No. 8 Landon Meyer was up, and he wanted in on the fun. He got his pitch and sent the second home run of the day over the left field fence.
The game was now 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, and the Bulldogs wanted more. They went on to have a six-run inning. This came from one home run and multiple base hits by the Dawgs. OBU didn’t know what to do to stop SWOSU; they tried changing pitchers, but we were ready for whoever they threw at us.
OBU did respond to SWOSU’s six-run inning with three of their own. They got in on the home run game and found a way to get one over. The Bulldogs shut this down quickly, not giving up any more this inning to OBU.
SWOSU was still leading 9-3, but went scoreless in the next two innings, and so did OBU. This was until the seventh inning, when the Bulldogs managed to find one run. They were not satisfied with this; they wanted the run-rule win, and that was the attitude they brought into the bottom of the eighth. The game was now 10-7 after the Bisons found some runs. The Bulldogs had to find seven runs to get the run-rule win, and they did just that. OBU gave up a walk to SWOSU and a single, and then No. 2 Zach Makarewich stepped up to the plate. He got his pitch, exploded on it, and sent a shot over the wall, scoring three runs. The Bulldogs’ line-up didn’t stop here. It became a game based on finding gaps and being aggressive on the bases. They found a way to get four more runs across the plate to end the game. Giving SWOSU a much-needed 17-7 win.
The Bulldogs had been struggling to find wins, and getting this win was able to get them back on track. They are going to need more if they want to get back on track for the Great American Conference (GAC) tournament. They are going to face Southeastern this Thursday and Friday in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
