As the semester comes to an end, so is Bulldogs athletics. Many sports have already finished or are coming to an end. This includes Baseball, Softball, Rodeo, Track and Field, and Golf. Here is how their seasons went.
SWOSU Baseball completed their season this past weekend with a series against Northwestern State. They struggled to find a win to close out their season and fell short of making the GAC tournament, but overall, they had some major wins this season. They had multiple wins against top-ranked teams and had some of the best teamwork on and off the field. Going back to the winter when they all came together to get snow off the field to be able to get games in. Also, having a seven-game winning streak towards the beginning of the season was a huge highlight of their season. They also celebrated with 11 graduating seniors this past weekend. These seniors gave it their all this year and are now onto their next chapter. SWOSU hopes to be able to fill these spots next year and find a way into the GAC tournament.
SWOSU Softball season is coming to an end with one more series left to play. This series is set for this weekend in Weatherford, Oklahoma, against Arkansas Tech this Friday and Saturday. They will also be celebrating their seniors on Saturday. The Bulldogs are also sitting 10th in conference right now, which will not get them into the GAC tournament. If they can win all three games this weekend, they could have a chance. They are coming off a series against rival school Northwestern, where they took two hard losses but managed to find a win in the third game. Overall, the Bulldogs have struggled to get momentum going this season. Being under new coaching, it seems they just couldn’t find a way to get going. Hopefully, with the excitement of celebrating their seniors, they can find some wins for them.
Bulldog Rodeos’ season is about to come to an end, and it was a strong year for the women’s team. The women’s team finished with five first-place wins out of ten rodeos. The women’s team has also secured its fourth consecutive Central Plains Region Championship; this gives them the opportunity to compete in the College National Finals Rodeo in June. The men’s team stayed consistent this year, finishing around sixth place in most of the rodeos they competed in. They struggled to find a top spot. Overall, both teams had a strong season. Now, our women’s team is looking for a national championship.
Track and Field are headed to Searcy, Arkansas, this weekend to finish their season at the GAC championship. Their season was full of record-breaking events, personal and school records. Most recently, Emerson Sours broke the school record for the 400m, running a 1:01.88. This has set SWOSU ahead and given them the push to know they can succeed at the championship. They have been working for this all season, and now it’s here.
Both the men’s and women’s golf teams had an amazing season, but still have two more events scheduled to compete at. Our women’s team had multiple first-place finishes and multiple top-three finishes. Our men’s team struggled to stay in the top five at some of their competitions, but they did secure one first-place finish at the Hillcat Classic back in March. At the GAC championship, both teams turned it on and secured top-five finishes, with the women finishing third and the men in fourth. The women’s team is now headed into the NCAA Central Regional on May 4th, and the men’s team is headed to the NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional on May 7th.
