Bulldogs win big on senior day

Following back-to-back losses, the SWOSU men’s basketball team came into their matchup against Arkansas Tech with great energy, and it paid off with a big 113-74 win.

The Bulldogs had taken an early lead, looking solid on offense. Up 8-3 on Arkansas Tech, Ben Smith knocked down a three-pointer and was called for a technical, followed by a Damian Thornton technical. With the free throws and possession, Arkansas Tech crawled back and tied the game 11-11.

After Arkansas Tech tied the game, SWOSU continued with their momentum and began building a lead which would put them up 16 points at halftime, leading 49-33.

In the previous matchup, SWOSU collapsed in the second half and lost the game by double digits. The Bulldogs were sure to not let the same thing happen this time. They continued to build their lead and run up the score in a well-rounded offensive display.

SWOSU had six players score in the double figures. Damion Thornton was the leading scorer with 20 points on a 6-for-10 shooting. Ben Smith was the second-leading scorer with 16 points.

With the dominant win, SWOSU is now 10-14 on the season and 9-10 in the Great American Conference. Their next matchup is next Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, against the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
