SWOSU basketball splits trip to Searcy
Both the SWOSU men’s and women’s basketball teams took a trip to Searcy, AR, where both teams took on Harding University.
The Lady Bulldogs started off the double-header, losing 68-48 to Harding.
The game was seemingly decided early. The Lady Bulldogs were already coming off a loss to NWOSU in Alva, and they came out flat. Harding won the first quarter 20-9 and the second quarter 16-9, giving them a 36-18 halftime lead.
Not all four quarters were lost for SWOSU, however, as they won the third quarter 13-9, but lost the final frame 23-17 to end the game. The Lady Bulldogs are now 7-17 on the season and 7-12 in conference play.
Morgan Smith led the Lady Bulldogs in points with 10 points in 35 minutes played. She shot 4-of-9 from the field.
SWOSU’s men’s basketball team had a better trip. They took their matchup over Harding 75-67 behind a big second half. They ended the first half trailing 36-34. They tied the game and took the lead early in the second half. They trailed again at the 15-minute mark in the second half but regained the lead shortly after, and the Bulldogs walked away with the win.
D’Angelo Adkins, Kamden Gipson, Ben Smith, and Chris Braggs Jr. each scored in double-figures for the Bulldogs, with Adkins leading the squad with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams take on Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Arkansas on Saturday, Feb. 18.
