The Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) rodeo team wrapped up a dominant fall semester with the women’s team sitting No. 1 in the Central Plains Region and an incredible No. 2 in the nation. Led by a powerhouse lineup of talented cowgirls and consistent performances across the board, the Bulldogs made a strong statement that they’re serious contenders heading into the spring season.
The season kicked off in Colby, Kansas, where Reagan McIntyre captured the Women’s All-Around title after sweeping the goat tying with matching 7.5-second runs and placing fourth in breakaway roping. Heston Harrison started his year on top, winning the saddle bronc riding with a standout 86.5-point ride in the short round. Braylee Ward and Carli Stuva both found success in barrel racing, finishing fourth and fifth in the average. Meanwhile, Brandt O’Connor, roping with Garden City’s Nicholas Lovins, won the first round of team roping and took third in the average. The SWOSU women’s team finished second overall at Colby, just 15 points behind the lead.
At the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Rodeo, SWOSU claimed both All-Around titles, with Cheyenne VandeStouwe earning the Women’s All-Around and Harrison taking the Men’s All-Around. VandeStouwe was electric in goat tying, winning the average with a pair of 6-second runs, and placing high in breakaway roping. McIntyre added more points with a top-five finish in goat tying, and Harrison continued his hot streak with a top-three finish in the saddle bronc riding and a fourth-place finish in team roping with Luke Crompton.
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into the OSU College Rodeo, where the women’s team took home the victory with 325 points. VandeStouwe dominated once again, sweeping the goat tying with matching 6.3-second runs to win the average, while Harrison claimed another saddle bronc title with rides of 80 and 79 points. Jaylyn Hash was a force in the steer wrestling, finishing second in the average, and Ward turned in two smooth, fast runs to finish third in barrel racing, securing key team points.
SWOSU closed out the semester with a commanding performance at the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo, where the women’s team stacked up 490 points—their highest of the fall. VandeStouwe led the charge, winning the breakaway roping and placing first again in goat tying. McIntyre and Greeley Eastep added more points in goat tying, finishing third and fourth, while Ward continued her incredible run in the barrel racing, taking second overall with two consistent, quick runs. Harrison earned the Men’s All-Around title after finishing third in the saddle bronc riding and adding points in team roping. O’Connor and Lovins also put together a standout weekend, winning the short round in team roping and finishing second in the average.
As the dust settles on the fall season, SWOSU stands tall among the best in the country. The women’s team leads the Central Plains Region and ranks second nationally, while several individuals hold top standings: Braylee Ward is currently the No. 1 barrel racer in the region, Cheyenne VandeStouwe leads the breakaway roping standings and sits second in goat tying, and Heston Harrison leads the saddle bronc.
